3 Days Tour to Merzouga Desert via Atlas Mountain

PROGRAM DETAILS

1 Day 1: MARRAKECH – AIT BEN HADDOU – DADES GORGE

Our Morocco Happiness Tour will take you through the mountain from Marrakech early morning at 8am to pass over the High Atlas with its high rugged mountain terrain and sweeping valleys. We will allow enough time for this pass and the beautiful views of its curvy road and scenic Berber villages in the region.

We will stop for refreshments at a local cafe before heading on to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, a group of earthen buildings surrounded by high walls, is a traditional pre-Saharan habitat. Ait Ben Haddou, in Ouarzazate province, is a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco with a well-preserved fortress city that has provided inspiration and filming locations with the biggest studios inviting many international companies to work here. Films such as Lawrence of Arabia (1962), The Living Daylights (1987), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988), The Mummy (1999), Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Kundun (1997), Legionnaire (1998), Hanna (2011),The Hills Have Eyes (2006), and Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011) and the TV series Game of Thrones were filmed at this location.

Afterwards, we will enjoy lunch at local restaurant before heading to Skoura Oasis and to continue along the road of one thousand Kasbahs. We’ll then pass through the Tamnalt Hills with their strange rock formations of monkey fingers in Valley of Dades before arriving at our first overnight stay, in the center of the Valley of Dades.

2 Day 2 : DADES GORGE – TOUDGHA GORGE – MERZOUGA – ERG CHEBBI

After breakfast, you will discover the fantastic Toudgha Gorges, an infinite view of the high mountains of the High Atlas. Afterwards, you will continue your tour to reach Erg Chebbi; the great Sahara Desert, passing through many Berber villages. Here you’ll meet your camels and guides, waiting to take you over the dunes on one of the world’s most exhilarating desert trips. On the route to your desert camp you can enjoy the beautiful views of the setting sun and then enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars as locals play traditional folk songs for your entertainment - it’s an opportunity to get closer to Nomads and to discover their lifestyle while repeating few Berber songs.

3 Day 3 : ERG CHEBBI – MERZOUGA – NEKOB – MARRAKECH

In the morning, our Morocco Happiness Tour continues by passing through the ancient city of Rissani and Erfoud, the capital of fossils. Then, we’ll drive through the Saghro volcanic mountains featuring striking rock formations and panoramic views including; Draa Valley, the largest oasis in Morocco passing the High Atlas Mountains. At the end of the program you’ll be taken back to Marrakech in the evening.
